Message from the Mayor
It is my pleasure to present the inaugural Moyne Shire Disability Inclusion and Access Plan 2024 – 2028. This plan outlines the next four years of actions to help our organisation and the community to becoming more inclusive and accessible for people living with disability.
The Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) was developed with the Moyne community to meet the requirements of the Victorian Disability Act 2006.
Council has met these obligations by adopting this DIAP for the four-year period 2024 to 2028.
The DIAP provides a summary of the engagement process along with a four-year plan of action for council that reflects the opportunities identified by the Moyne community.
A snapshot of our community in 2023 shows we are growing and ageing, with increased numbers of people with mobility, cognitive and sensory disabilities.
As a council we have a commitment to support all our residents and visitors to enjoy our shire’s open spaces, natural environment, beautiful towns and services, facilities, activities and diverse events.
The plan also helps council to support our local businesses to be aware of the benefits of good access and inclusion and how simple it can be to foster an atmosphere of connection between all members of our community.
We have a responsibility to lead by example to increase awareness of the obstacles that impact people with disability and to embed access and inclusion into our culture and activities.
The statistics provided in this plan are based on a total estimated residential population in 2022 of 17,470 (Remplan February 2024)
