Barriers to social and economic participation

People with disability often face barriers to social and economic participation in their communities due to a variety of factors. These include negative stereotypes and attitudes, lack of accessibility in physical environments and communication, limited educational opportunities, discriminatory hiring practices, inadequate support services, and systemic exclusion. These barriers can prevent people with disability from accessing education, securing employment, participating in community activities, and fully engaging in social and economic life.

As a community we believe in addressing these barriers by promoting inclusive policies, improving accessibility, challenging stigma and discrimination, providing appropriate support services, and fostering inclusive attitudes and practices in society.

By doing this we will increase the liveability and economic return across Moyne Shire by investing in accessible tourism, more employment opportunities for people with disability, and supporting entrepreneurial opportunities for businesses that provide support services for people with disability.
