Mount Shadwell Quarry
Mount Shadwell Quarry is fully owned and operated by Moyne Shire Council and provides scoria products to the construction and roadwork industries, as well as farmers, trades and the home handy person. The quarry is located 3km north of Mortlake on the Ararat-Mortlake Road, and provides products including crushed rock for roadworks, fine aggregate, dust for pipe bedding and coarse aggregate for filters and landscaping.
The quarry is open Monday to Thursday from 7.30am to 4.15pm and on Fridays from 7.30am to 3.45pm.
Fossicking
Fossicking is currently open from 10am to 4pm on the second Saturday of the month by appointment only.
Fossickers need to apply by phone (03) 5599 2899 or fossicking@mortlakeInfo.com.au
Please provide the following detail:
- Contact name and mobile phone number
- Date of attendance and proposed time of arrival
- The number in the group including the number of adults and children
Fossickers will be required to complete a conditions of entry and indemnity form on the day.
Fossickers should bring appropriate protective clothing for the conditions – covered shoes, gloves, sun protection (hat, long sleeves, etc.), also hammers or small picks and protective glasses are recommended along with any desired drinks and food.
While facilities are greatly limited at the quarry, there are many services within the Mortlake township that will satisfy most requirements.
