As part of Moyne Shire Council’s ongoing advocacy program, Mayor Karen Foster, Councillor Myra Murrihy, Chief Executive Officer Mark Eversteyn and Director Environment, Economy and Place Jodie McNamara recently travelled to Parliament House in Melbourne to meet with State Ministers.

It was an important opportunity to speak with Minister for Local Government The Hon. Nick Staikos, member for Western Victoria Jacinta Ermacora and Minister for Energy and Resources The Hon. Lily D’Ambrosio.

Mayor Karen Foster said the meetings provided a chance to present key issues facing the south west Victoria region and more specifically Moyne Shire.

“By championing our communities’ needs through these meetings, we were able to highlight shared priorities and create pathways for improved collaboration,” Cr Foster said.

Among the priorities discussed were:

  • The proposed Emergency Services and Volunteer Fund Levy
  • Replacement of the Gipps Street Bridge, Port Fairy
  • Women Representation in Council
  • Council’s continued financial sustainability
  • Key worker housing
  • Decommissioning of Codrington windfarm
  • Economic and community benefits from renewable energy projects

We look forward to continuing our advocacy as the federal election race across Wannon builds momentum.
