More actions have been ticked off from Council’s Economic Development Strategy and Action Plan – providing support and promotion to local businesses.

Councillors noted the Year four report at Tuesday’s Council meeting, where 70 percent of actions have been completed and a further 29 percent in progress.

Across the four years, 98 percent of actions have either been completed or are in progress.

Mayor, Cr Ian Smith said it was an important strategy that highlighted Council’s commitment to supporting local businesses and growing the local economy.

“This is a really strong result and our teams have done a great job working through the actions and providing a huge amount of support to our business community,” she said.

“I’m especially proud of the initiatives we have had around worker accommodation. From our cabins in Koroit and Mortlake, through to the subsidised rates for workers in our Caravan Parks.

“These are initiatives which have provided direct support to local businesses as we deal with housing shortages. It means they have been able to attract people to work and provide them with accommodation options to ensure business could open and offer their full services.

Cr Smith said business support was a critical role of Council.

“If the business community is doing well, then the whole community does well,” he said.

“These action plan results are a credit to our teams and show we are committed to supporting and growing our local economy.”
