Supporting businesses as Koroit works kick-off

The next stage of the Koroit Township renewal works has begun – with footpath construction works now underway on Commercial Road.  

Work to build a new bluestone paved footpath on the northern side of Commercial Road, between the IGA and Woolsthorpe Road intersection began on Monday January 29 and are expected to take up to 16 weeks to complete.  

Mayor Cr Ian Smith said it was exciting to see the project getting underway.  

“This is a key priority of the Koroit community and of Council, so I’m thrilled that we are getting this stage underway,” he said.  

“Once completed there will be a fantastic new footpath paved with local bluestone, new street furniture and street trees. 

“There will be some disruptions over the coming weeks, and we have a range of measures in place to help encourage people to continue shopping in local businesses.”  

Cr Smith said the first round of support would begin soon and give shoppers who spend more than $15 in a single transaction at any business on Commercial Road the chance to win a $100 voucher to a Koroit business of their choice.  

“It will be as simple as writing your details on the back of your receipt and putting it in the barrel at Daly’s IGA or the Koroit Library,” he said.  

“That will be drawn each week with the winners announced on the Love Local Moyne social media pages each Friday. Stay tuned for more details about the competition soon.  

“We will also be working closely with businesses to promote their opening hours and any special services they are offering for the duration of the works.  

“We understand there will be some disruption to businesses, but we are doing everything possible to encourage people to continue to shop local as this exciting project takes shape.”  

Cr Smith said works would involve rolling closures of car parks and lanes on Commercial Road, as well as changes to pedestrian access.  

“We will have traffic management on site and our teams will be keeping businesses informed every step of the way,” he said.  

“The community will be kept informed about the works via the project page on Engage Moyne and on Council’s social media.”
