Three new stock underpasses will be installed across the shire thanks to funding from a Moyne Shire Council initiative.

Grants of $30,000 were awarded to construct underpass on Gordons Lane at Ellerslie, Swans Lane, Allansford and the Terang-Framlingham Road at Ballangeich.

Mayor Cr Ian Smith said the underpasses would improve safety for motorists and farm staff, as well as improve animal welfare.

“I’m really proud of this program and please we have been able to partner with farmers to deliver these three new underpasses,” he said.

“It delivers great safety outcomes for everyone, from road users through to farmers and the animals. It also improves farm efficiency and productivity which helps with economic growth.

“Stock underpasses can be expensive to install, so I’m so pleased Council is able to make a contribution to allow farms to have them constructed.”

Cr Smith said the Victorian Government had a previously run a similar contribution program, but funding had not been continued.

“I’d really encourage the government to look at reinstating their program to help even more farmers install underpasses across the state,” he said.

“They drive great outcomes across a range of different areas, from road safety to farm productivity.”
