Moyne’s key advocacy items were on the agenda for a set of key meetings at State Parliament this week.

Mayor Cr Karen Foster, Deputy Mayor Cr Daniel Meade, Chief Executive Officer Brett Davis and Director Infrastructure and Environment Edith Farrell visited State Parliament House to meet with Ministers and key staffers.

Cr Foster said meetings were held with Minister for Roads Melissa Horne, Minister for Planning Sonya Kilkenny, Minister for Regional Development Harriet Shing as well as local MPs Jacinta Ermacora, Roma Britnell, Emma Kealy and Sarah Mansfield.

Representatives for Minister for Energy and Resources and Climate Action Lily D’Ambrosio also met with the delegation.

“It’s really important we have these discussions to make sure our projects and issues impacting our community are front of mind,” Cr Foster said.

“Advocacy is a key element of the Council plan, and we used these meetings to talk about our key priorities including the Koroit township renewal, key worker housing, the Gipps Street Bridge and funding for playgrounds.

“We also raised planning issues around renewable energy which are key issues for our community. We have made sure those concerns are now understood by decision makers in Spring Street.”

Cr Foster said the matter of regional roads were highlighted with Minister Horne.

“Minister Horne was receptive to our concerns, and we discussed the need to do things differently to address the way roads are constructed,” she said.

“Again, roads are the number one concern of our community so again we made sure they were raised with those who are making decisions about the state-controlled road network.

“It was a very productive and positive series of meetings – as Councillors our job is to advocate on behalf of our community and we will continue to take these messages to people making the decisions to get some action.”
