Port Fairy’s Reardon Theatre will be closed for a month as it undergoes essential restumping works during August.

Works will include leveling the floor and provision of new stumps from the tiered seats to the south wall behind the screen.

Carpet tiles will replace the green “cricket wicket” in the main hall at the conclusion of the restumping.

The Port Fairy Film Society has run extra screenings in recent months to make up for the theatre’s closure during works, which are anticipated to be complete in September.

Mayor Cr Karen Foster said “The Reardon Theatre has been central to community life in Port Fairy and district for almost 70 years, as both a cinema, entertainment venue and community gathering space.

“We look forward to completing these important renewal works to preserve and enhance this facility for all for years to come.”

Council allocated $140,000 from the annual building renewal budget to complete the essential works. Council have worked closely with user groups to ensure minimal disruptions during the works.
