The rainbow flag will fly in front Moyne Shire Council’s Port Fairy and Mortlake Office on May 17 to mark the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT)

Mayor Cr Karen Foster said it was an important day for Council to mark and show that everyone is welcome in Moyne Shire.

“Council has an important role to play in promoting communities that are safe and welcoming to all people,” she said.

“Flying the Rainbow Flag in front of our two main offices on IDAHOBIT is visible symbol that everyone is welcome, and that intolerance won’t be accepted in Moyne.”

Cr Foster said Council in conjunction with the Port Fairy Film Society would also host a free community screening of the classic Australian film The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert at Port Fairy’s Riordan Theatre that evening.

“What better way to celebrate a day about acceptance and inclusion than with a film that broke down barriers,” Cr Foster said.

“It will be a fun evening celebrating an important day on the calendar, showcasing how far we have come while reflecting on steps we need to take to become a truly inclusive society.”

Free tickets for the movie screening must be pre-booked online at https://www.portfairyfilmsociety.com/event-details/the-adventures-of-priscilla-queen-of-the-desert
