Moyne Shire’s animal management and compliance officers have expressed gratitude to pet owners for registering their pets for 2023/2024.

Pet registration is a State Government legislative requirement for dogs and cats over 3 months of age, with compliance carried out by councils.

The fees from pet registrations help pay for finding owners of lost pets, doggie bags, information resources, and pound facilities.

Mayor, Cr Karen Foster said that registration and compulsory microchipping of pets is the best way to recover a pet that is missing.

“Our local laws officers can scan for a microchip, and they have 24-hour access to pet owner databases,” she said.

“If your registration and microchip contact details are up to date, they can quickly reunite you with your lost pet.”

Council also recommends owners desex domestic pets to avoid unwanted litters, to help reduce problem behaviours, and to reduce registration fees.

Pet owners with questions relating to registration, microchips, off-lead areas, free pamphlets, or animal complaints can call Council on 1300 65 65 64 or visit www.moyne.vic.gov.au/Animals
