Ocean Drive update February 2025
Published on 27 February 2025
With footpath works still paused along Ocean Drive in Port Fairy, Moyne Shire Council is mindful of the disruption caused to local residents and visitors, and acknowledges their concerns.
Mayor, Cr Karen Foster said Council has been working with the relevant authorities and stakeholders on protection and compliance matters associated with the site.
“The Department of Premier and Cabinet is continuing its investigation into the works, and we await their further advice,” said Cr Foster.
“In the meantime, a number of options were considered for the Ocean Drive project including partial or full resumption of works, or a remediation of the site and ceasing of the project,” she said.
“At our Council meeting this week we resolved to discontinue the Ocean Drive footpath project and rehabilitate the entire works zone.”
“This difficult decision was made having weighed up both the compliance and financial obligations for the project.
“The option to resume works along the north side of the road would have added close to another 12 months to the project, significant additional costs, and uncertainty in terms of approvals.”
“We understand those who have advocated for a footpath along Ocean Drive will be disappointed, and we’re sorry the project cannot be realised. A letterbox drop and postal mail out has been made to property owners and residents within the project area explaining this decision.”
“Further updates will be provided as soon as possible, and we are grateful for the continued patience of residents and visitors.”
