Moyne Shire Council will submit three projects to the Federal Government for approval under the Local Road and Community Infrastructure program.

The program delivers funding to councils which they can allocate to various projects – Moyne Shire Council is seeking approval to allocate $153,903 towards a concrete footpath along Ocean Drive in Port Fairy, $919,747 for drainage, footpath, parking and other works in Campbell and James Street, Port Fairy and $648,000 towards renewal works on the Panmure-Laang Road.

Mayor Smith said each of the projects were important to the local communities.

“The footpath in Ocean Drive is a response to a community request to provide safe pedestrian links to that area of Port Fairy,” Cr Smith said.

“The work in Cambell Street will address drainage and road safety issues in that area and will also look at parking provisions for the new skate park and playground which will be built in Russell Clarke Reserve.

“The Panmure Laang Road is a main collector road and is earmarked for upgrade in the 2024/25 construction season. The project is already designed and costed and ready to proceed.”

Cr Smith said the Local Road and Community Infrastructure Program was a critical funding stream to complete community-based projects.

“Through phase four of this fund Moyne has received $2.7 million under part A which could be used on community infrastructure and a further $1.5 million under Part B for use on road projects only,” he said.

“Other funding rounds have meant we’ve been able to complete important projects like the lighting at DC Farran Oval in Mortlake, upgrades to Irvine Reserve in Peterborough, new footpaths in Grassmere, Winslow and Macarthur, cabins at the Mortlake Caravan Park, resurfacing of the Port Fairy – Warrnambool Rail Trail, upgrades at the Market Street Precinct in Macarthur and restoration of the Goods Shed in Port Fairy and many more.

“Without this funding being made available to us, a lot of those projects simply wouldn’t have happened. We thank the government for making this available and encourage them strongly to announce stage five so we can complete even more important road and community projects.”
