Grant funding helps support Moyne community groups
Published on 01 March 2023
Almost $35,000 has been awarded to community groups across the Moyne Shire to help bring their projects to life as part of the next round of the Community Assistance Fund.
At Tuesday’s Council meeting, councillors awarded:
- $14,025 to the Koroit Theatre Community Asset Committee to purchase new theatre seating
- $10,806 to the Koroit Football Netball Club for football goal nets.
- $6,300 to the Hawkesdale and District Development Committee to replace the wooden farmer statue
- $3366 to the Port Fairy Little Athletics committee for Installation of long jump pits
The community groups are also making a contribution and the projects have a total value of $68,993.
Almost $20,000 has also been allocated to other local community groups towards a variety of projects, including an equipment storage shed for the Port Fairy Petanque Club and mobile indoor stage for the Nirranda Football Netball Club, after changes to the program in 2022 allowed the CEO to sign off on small equipment purchases under $5,000.
Mayor Cr Karen Foster said the program is an important way of helping support local initiatives run by community groups that benefit the wider Moyne region.
“So far, around $140,000 has been awarded to community groups and organisations across Moyne to make their project ideas a reality,” Cr Foster said.
“Last year, we also made some changes to how the fund works, with groups now able to apply for up to $5,000 of funding with no applicant contribution required, allowing us to deliver these small equipment grants faster.”
“There is still $90,000 of funding available to help our community groups achieve their projects with applications open until April 3, so I would encourage those interested to head to our website, take a look at the criteria, speak to a Grants Officer and submit an application.”
“We love supporting our community groups who offer so much to the region on so many levels and I look forward to supporting more of these groups by investing in community assets and resources for our Shire.”
More information and eligibility criteria can be found at www.moyne.vic.gov.au/Community-Assistance-Fund
Prior to lodging an application, applicants must speak with a Council Grants Officer by contacting 1300 656 564. This is a mandatory requirement.
Applications for the Community Assistance Fund are open until April 3, 2023.
