Funding delivered to community groups

More than $70,000 has been awarded to community groups in the latest round of funding from Council’s Community Assistance Fund.
At Tuesday’s Council Meeting, Councillors endorsed $71,545 in matched funding to groups across the shire for projects over $5,000 ranging from new spectator shelters, footpaths, barbeque facilities and scoreboards.
Mayor Cr Karen Foster said the Community Assistance Fund was an important way of supporting community groups with their projects.
“I always look forward to these rounds because it’s so important to support groups, clubs and organisations make their facilities better and make improvements for the community,” she said.
“This was the final round for this allocation so across the year we have provided $263,993 in funding to groups across the width and breadth of the shire for a huge range of projects and equipment purchases.
“We’ve helped provide post and rail fencing for pony club yards, new seating for the Koroit Theatre, a linemarking machine and Long Jump Pit for the Port Fairy Little Athletics Club, new lawnmowers and even new mats for indoor bowls.
“This is one of my favorite funds, I congratulate our latest recipients and look forward to seeing your projects come to life.”
Cr Foster said a further $37,659 had been awarded in the final round of the Under $5000 category, which were signed off by the Chief Executive Officer.
She said that included support for the Illowa Tennis Club to purchase spectator seating and signage, The Peterborough Residents Group for blinds and an electric whiteboard, and the Mosswood Wildlife Centre for screen doors for animal shelters.
