Residents of Moyne Shire will be able to dispose of lawn clippings, branches and vegetation for free as part of summer fire preparedness.

Following on from three weeks of free green waste disposal after September’s storm, Council is offering another free drop off across the Shire on the weekend of 25/26 November.

Mayor Cr Ian Smith said now is the time to reduce fuel loads around homes.

“The CFA recommend reduction of flammable vegetation around a house. This significantly increases the likelihood of house survival by minimising the impact of radiant heat and ember attack during a bushfire,” Cr Smith said.

“This is a great chance to clear up the garden without waste facility fees, before the hot weather kicks in.”

Green waste can be disposed of at no charge on these dates at the following Moyne Shire transfer stations:

Hawkesdale: Saturday, 25 November, 8.30am –12.30pm

Macarthur: Saturday, 25 November, 12:30 – 2:30pm

Killarney: Sunday, 26 November, 10am – 4pm

Peterborough: Sunday, 26 November, 10am – 2pm

Caramut: Sunday, 26 November, 12:30pm – 4:30pm

Mortlake: Sunday, 26 November, 1:30pm – 4:30pm

Conditions apply:
• No mixed loads are allowed (green garden waste only)
• Limbs and branches up to 30cm in diameter
• No commercial operators or commercial loads will be accepted
• Trucks are not permitted.
