Moyne Shire Councillors have adopted a Planning Scheme amendment which will create 63 residential lots in Port Fairy.

Councillors on Tuesday accepted the recommendations of an Independent Planning Panel which heard submissions into Planning Scheme Amendment C75 – known as Rivers Run Estate.

The amendment will now be sent to Minister for Planning Sonia Kilkenny for her approval.

Mayor Cr Ian Smith said the developer had proposed the amendment which had been on public exhibition from December 16, 2021 until January 31, 2022 – with 89 submissions received.

“This has been a very thorough process,” he said.

“The community has had a chance to have their say on this proposal. Both Council and an Independent Planning Pannel have considered those submissions, and the Panel has recommended it proceeded with changes the applicant made during the hearing.

“The Minister now has the final say on approval.”

Cr Smith said this was the third major planning scheme amendment Council had adopted this term and follows amendment C70 – Rural Housing and Settlement Strategy and amendment C69 – the Port Fairy Coastal and Structure plan.

“These amendments will create hundreds of new housing lots right across the shire and allow for sustainable and well planned growth,” he said.

“The minister has approved C70, but we are still waiting on her decision for C69 – we hope to have a response on that soon given the significant housing shortages we are facing in our region and across the state.”

“Council thanks the community and the independent planning panel for their consideration and participation within the amendment process.”
